Maintaining
Certification
In order to maintain the Certified School Financial Manager (CSFM) Certification,
you (the certified student) must complete forty-two (42)
continuing education hours every two (2) years. The
continuing education programs must be approved by the School Financial
Management Institute (SFMI) Advisory Board. Eleven (11)
of the forty-two hours must be acquired through the Gatton College of
Business and Economics continuing education programs. These programs
will typically include Gatton College of Business IBMC campus-based
and internet-based leadership and management development courses as
well as periodic regional workshops (i.e. KASBO). The Gatton College
will attempt to insure coordination of this continuing education requirement
with the forty-two hours required for Finance Officers by the Kentucky
Department of Education.
It is your responsibility
to maintain your certification documentation. To assist you with tracking
your completed hours, the Gatton College of Business will email you
CSFM CEU Tracking Form or you can download from the following link,
CSFM
CEU Tracking form during your certification period
and this form is available on the IBMC web site at www.gattonibmc.org.
You must complete this form and send it to the Gatton College of Business,
IBMC Office, no later than May 31 of your re-certification ending-year.
The CSFM CEU Tracking form will help you to maintain your required hours.
The approved Gatton
College of Business courses that you have completed will be officially
documented and maintained at the University of Kentucky Registrar’s
Office. If you need to know how many Gatton hours that you have acquired,
you can contact the University of Kentucky’s Registrar’s

Should you fail
to complete the required forty-two (42) hours of continuing education
every two years, you must once again pass the certification examination
to regain active status. Your two-year continuing education cycle begins
on July 1 immediately following your certification.
It is important
that you (the certified student) keep all records of course attendance,
certificates and/or letters received, for auditing purposes.

UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY’S CEU CALCULATION:
• One continuing education unit (CEU) is ten (10) contact hours
of participation.
• The number of CEU’s per student equals the clock hours
or contact hours divided by 10. to figure use the following guideline:
Example: A student
attended 24 hours of a CEU course; student will
receive 2.4 continuing education units of credit (CEU’s)
• When calculating
the number of CEU’s for a course, the number of contact minutes
should be totaled and divided by 60 to arrive at the number of contact
hours. Non-instructional time such as breaks, introductions, lunches
and social events are not included in the number of contact hours. (Any
segment of an hour less than 30 minutes is not counted towards the number
of contact hours.)
KENTUCKY
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION’S CEU CALCULATION:
• One continuing education hour is one (1) contact hour per course
session.
• The number of CEU’s per student equals the clock hours
or contact hours physically obtained by attending course session. To
figure use the following guideline:
Example: A student
attended 8 hours and you had 1 hour for lunch, you will earn 7 credit
hours towards your 11 hours of certification; student will receive .7
continuing education units of credit (CEU’s).
